Immigrant ‘Medal of Honor’ recipients

In a time when leaders speak of building walls to keep immigrant criminals out of America, it is important to remember those immigrants who contributed much to making this country what it is today.

“Mexican-born immigrant and Medal of Honor recipient Alfred Rascon was once asked about his courage on the battlefield fighting for America even though he had yet to become a citizen. “I was always an American in my heart,” said Rascon.         

I met Alfred Rascon several years ago when researching the military contributions of immigrants. I examined biographical data on recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor and discovered an astonishing fact: More than 20% of the recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor in U.S. wars have been immigrants.”
